UPGRADE OUR BOREHOLE DRILLING EQUIPMENT

You make our mission possible. Without you, we simply couldn't do what we do. We rejoice for every gift that we receive and will endeavor to use all that we are given in the best possible way according to the specific needs at any one time. You can now make a one-off or recurring monthly donation to us via our hassle-free KindLink donation portal.

It is really helpful for us if you can add Gift Aid your donation (if you are a UK tax payer). The Gift Aid that we collect on your donations helps to cover our operating expenses meaning that more of your donation goes directly towards our work.

Since 2018 our installation technicians in Senegal have manually drilled more than 300 boreholes. Stacked on top of each other this is a staggering 6km into the ground!

As you can probably imagine drilling 6km into the ground by hand in the heat of Senegal is not easy work. So, to make their lives easier we want to upgrade the equipment that our hard working team uses.

We would like to invest in a mud pumping system, where water is pumped down the drilling stem. At the bottom of the borehole it goes back up outside the drilling stem carrying sludge with it. When it reaches the top it exits the borehole to a settling pit. Although still a manual drilling technique, this will make the drilling process less labour intensive and much quicker (they won't have to continuously assemble and disassemble the drilling stem).

It will also enable us to drill up to 15m deeper than we are currently able to meaning that we can install boreholes in areas previously beyond our reach.

“Thank you for your help. Thanks to you, the cases of stomach sicknesses and Diarrhea have greatly reduced. The face of the Mpack school has changed and some students have already installed Tippy Taps at their homes.”
